Hi!
This is a bit of a different post but as you can probably tell from the title, it’s about World Down Syndrome Day.
I personally have no experience with anyone who has down syndrome or any other disabilities but I feel very strongly about equality in our world and that everyone feels like they are loved and fit in.
Today at school my pastoral care teacher showed our class a video for down syndrome day called How Do You See Me? and as I watched it I realized how out of place people with disabilities must feel but it was so heart warming to see that the girl in the video was experiencing everything she wanted to.
You can watch that video by clicking here.
There is a girl with down syndrome at my school and she is so sweet and beautiful but I’ve seen and heard so many people judging her on the way she looks because of her disability, how she walks, how she talks and everything that she does and it makes me so sad that people can treat others like that, disability or no disability.
My point in this is that having a disability is exactly the same as having a different skin colour, having a different sexuality or having a different religion. All these people want is to fit in and be treated like everyone else is and people with disabilities should not be seen as less intelligent or less beautiful or less approachable.
They are people. Just like you, just like me and like everyone else in this world despite their differences.
“Having down syndrome is like being born normal. I am just like you and you are just like me. We are all born in different ways, that is the way I can describe it. I have a normal life.”

It’s great that you’re talking about this, it’s terrible how people discriminate people with disabilities. I really liked it when you talked about everyone feeling loved, I just felt like it was a lovely message ❤️

Oh man, thank you for this. People need to realise that people with disabilities ARE JUST LIKE OTHER PEOPLE.

Yeah, people with disabilities should not be treated differently just because of one thing. I just found out that I have a friend who is dyslexic and I really tried to help her out in every way possible because I realized how hard it must be for her.
Thank you so much for the comment ❤
